About Arte Reviver Capoeira of Conejo Valley

Welcome to Arte Reviver Capoeira of Conejo Valley. We aim to share the art and culture of Capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian fighting style practiced the world over by people of all backgrounds, ages, and abilities.

Training with us will instill confidence in those who study Capoeira, encourage knowledge of Afro-Brazilian culture, develop musical and physical abilities, and contribute to our vibrant and diverse Conejo Valley community.

Where we teach

We proudly serve Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Oak Park, Agoura Hills, Westlake Village, Calabasas, Moorpark, and Simi Valley. There is additional instruction through the Conejo Valley Unified School District, and private lessons are available on request.

Capoeira is played rather than fought. Two people move together inside a circle of singing and live percussion called a roda, and everything you learn in class points back to it: the movement, the instruments, the songs, the Portuguese. You step into the circle when you are ready, and nobody is pushed.

What you can expect

Movement

Ginga, kicks, escapes and floor work, built up slowly. No experience and no flexibility required to start.

Music

Berimbau, pandeiro and atabaque, and the songs that go with them. The roda does not happen without them.

Culture

The history and the Portuguese behind what we practice, taught alongside the physical side rather than after it.
